Take one daily serving somewhere between 100 and 200 mg, consistently, for at least three months. A 2016 review catalogued doses from 48 mg to 240 mg a day across published trials, with 120 mg for twelve weeks the most repeated combination. [1] Taking more doesn’t appear to work better. In a 2025 trial, 150 mg a day gave no clear advantage over 80 mg. [2]
What doses have actually been studied
The useful target is a broad window rather than a precise number, which takes most of the pressure off. Four well-run trials cover the practical range, and the interesting part is how similar their results are across quite different amounts.
A 2025 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial gave 150 healthy adults either 60 mg or 120 mg a day for twelve weeks. Both groups improved. The 120 mg group came out ahead on skin hydration, elasticity, and the depth of lines around the eyes, and the 60 mg group showed the same pattern more gently. [3]
The most-tested protocol of all is 120 mg a day for twelve weeks. A 2017 study used exactly that and measured visibly softer crow’s feet in adults aged 22 to 59. [4] A 2014 set of trials tested both 120 mg and 240 mg and found improvements in skin condition at each. [5] A 2025 trial in Spain got clear results on smoothness and fine lines at just 60 mg a day in women aged 35 to 65. [6]
Does taking more work better?
The evidence says no, and this is probably the most useful thing on the page. It’s also the point most likely to save you money.
A 2025 trial tested the question directly. Sixty-one healthy adults took either 80 mg or 150 mg of hyaluronic acid daily for twelve weeks. Both groups reported meaningfully less knee pain, less stiffness, and easier movement than the placebo group, and the higher dose showed no clear advantage over the lower one. [2]
The skin research points the same way. The 60 mg group in the 2025 trial of 150 adults improved in the same direction as the 120 mg group, and the 2025 Spanish trial got clear results at 60 mg alone. [3,6] Once you’re inside the studied range, how faithfully you take it matters far more than how much is in each capsule.
The habit we don’t recommend: doubling up
Don’t take two servings a day to speed things along. Nothing in the research supports it, and it isn’t how any of these trials were run. Every study above used a single daily dose measured over six to twelve weeks.
If you’re at week six and not seeing what you hoped for, keep going to week twelve rather than doubling the serving. That’s how this ingredient behaves. [2,3]
Where our 200 mg fits
Our dose sits at the upper end of the studied range, in a single capsule. Hyaluronic Acid Capsules deliver 200 mg of low molecular weight hyaluronic acid per serving, well within the 48 to 240 mg range documented in the research, and above the most-repeated dose of 120 mg. [1]
We landed there for a practical reason more than a scientific one. One capsule, once a day, means no math and no second bottle. Hyaluronic Acid Hydration Complex carries the same 200 mg across a two-capsule serving, along with electrolytes, MSM, silica, and vitamin C. The dose-comparison research shows no clear benefit to climbing higher, so an effortless daily habit matters more than a bigger number on the label.
Does molecular weight change how much you need?
Molecular weight doesn’t change your dose, which is worth knowing because it often gets marketed as though smaller means you need less.
The trials used wildly different molecular sizes at similar doses and got similar results. The 2017 study ran a very small 2-kilodalton form and a 300-kilodalton form side by side at 120 mg, and both beat placebo. [4] The 2025 trial of 150 adults used a form nearly a thousand times larger at that same 120 mg dose, with clear improvements in hydration and elasticity. [3] A 2015 study compared 800- and 300-kilodalton forms at 120 mg and both raised skin moisture. [7]
What the number on the label doesn’t tell you
Two things are worth checking before you compare two products by milligrams alone.
Is that the hyaluronic acid, or the blend it sits in? A label reading “200 mg Beauty Complex” that happens to include hyaluronic acid among six other ingredients is not a 200 mg hyaluronic acid dose. This applies to our own products too. The hyaluronic acid in Multi Collagen Complex Plus is one part of its 200 mg Glowing Beauty Complex. It’s a great collagen formula, but it isn’t a hyaluronic acid dose.
Is it per serving or per capsule? Two capsules to reach 200 mg and one capsule to reach 200 mg are different products in practice, especially on a morning when you’re rushing. Our Capsules give you the full 200 mg in a single pill, and the Hydration Complex spreads it across two.
How to compare two products in thirty seconds
Turn both bottles around and check four things on the supplement facts panel. It’s faster than reading the front of the label and considerably more informative.
- The milligrams next to “hyaluronic acid.” Not next to a blend name. If the number sits beside “Beauty Complex” or “Radiance Blend,” you don’t actually know how much hyaluronic acid you’re getting.
- The serving size. Three capsules to reach the advertised dose is a very different daily habit from one, and it empties the bottle three times as fast.
- Servings per container. This is where real price comparisons live. A cheaper bottle with 30 servings costs more per day than a pricier one with 60.
- Third-party testing. Supplements aren’t reviewed before they go on sale, so independent testing is what separates a verified label from a hopeful one.
One term is worth decoding while you’re back there. “Hyaluronic acid (as sodium hyaluronate)” is the same molecule in a more stable salt form. It’s what the research studies used, and it’s what we use.
When should you take it?
Take it with food and water, at whatever time of day you’ll consistently remember. The studies didn’t test morning against evening, so pick the time you’ll stick with.
- Take the hyaluronic acid supplement once a day with a meal.
- Anchor it to something you already do without thinking, like the same breakfast or the same morning coffee.
- Keep going through week twelve before deciding whether it’s earning its place.
How long before you’d notice?
Expect around six weeks for how your skin feels and eight to twelve weeks for what you can see. Skin moisture improved by roughly six weeks in the trials measuring it, differences in fine lines generally appeared from week eight, and twelve weeks is the standard endpoint across this research. [3,4,5] Individual results vary.
Set your expectations around hydration, suppleness, and softer-looking lines, since those are the outcomes the 2025 pooled analysis of seven randomized trials confirmed. [8]
