Liposomal glutathione is glutathione encased in tiny phospholipid spheres called liposomes, designed to shield the molecule from digestive breakdown and support absorption. Standard glutathione supplements can be degraded in the gut before reaching cells — that's the problem the liposomal format tries to solve. Early human studies are encouraging, but the evidence base is still small.
What does glutathione do in the body?
Glutathione is often called the body's master antioxidant: it helps neutralize free radicals and supports normal detoxification processes, especially in the liver. Your cells make it themselves from three amino acids — cysteine, glycine, and glutamate — and research indicates glutathione status can decline with age and under sustained oxidative stress, which is why supplemental forms attract so much interest. [1]
Does the liposomal form actually absorb better?
Here's the honest read: encouraging, not settled. In 2018, a small pilot study found that oral liposomal glutathione elevated glutathione stores and markers of immune function within weeks. [2] But a longer 2015 trial found that even plain oral glutathione raised body stores over six months [1] — so the liposomal advantage looks like speed and efficiency, not an on/off switch. Direct head-to-head comparisons in humans are still scarce.
What should you look for in a glutathione supplement?
Three things: the reduced form (L-glutathione), a clearly stated liposomal delivery system, and transparent labeling. Our Glutathione supplement uses the reduced form in a liposomal delivery format to support antioxidant defenses. As with most supplements in this category, consistency over weeks matters more than any single dose — and it's smart to check with your healthcare provider first, especially if you take medications.
